Mafia City is a mafia themed clan that has been operating in World 83 since late 2006. It has been heavily involved and influential in both the Runescape Mafia Network and the W83 Player Owned City Community during their active years through to 2011, engaging in diplomacy, conflicts and wars. In the early 2010s they where active in the RSB Battle Ladders before refocusing on its community and active PvM gameplay as the playstyle of Runescape changed through the 2010s and 2020s.

History
2006
Formed on 31st October 2006 by Mattywarrior, Mafia City was the ascension of a small in game clan he had ran consisting of a group of friends in the months prior into a formal structured themed clan with the goal of a permanent presence and take over of Varrocks underworld. The name was also conceived from this same goal, Varrock would become "Mafia City". Some of the original members came across from the in game clan including Absol, Runelooter, Flashaway, Knaresboroug, Almerd, Fireangel and Djdan1995 taking up ranks from recruit to underboss.
In the first few days an invasion took place from the South gates into Varrock, sweeping through the city building by building, establishing a foothold as our uniformed soldiers were seen across the city, sparking interest in what was going on and recruiting new faces on a daily basis. Hangouts where formed and held in various locations across the south of the city with the most prominent headquartered in the Blue Moon Inn basement; at this time in the game there was no group chat feature so all comms where held in public so group gatherings where common place.
This activity was noticed by another themed clan who confronted us, the Kingdom of Varrock, who proclaimed they were in control of Varrock and had been there for over a month before our arrival. Conflict broke out as their guards would routinely flush out buildings across the city where we held meetings and vis versa with their events being targeted in the North of the city. This engagement started a rivalry that would span years to come and was pivotal to the success of both role-playing clans and the expansion of the W83 POC Community.
By the end of December, Mafia City was running protection rackets for in game businesses, essentially offering guards and doormen for various operations, including businesses run by KOV citizens which led to the first encounter with another family, The O'Reilly Family, who tried to take over protection of a restaurant being run at the Blue Moon Inn. This led to the realisation that there are other Mafia families out there and began reaching out across the forums which led to the meeting of Roan De Wise of the Verona Family, who would become their closest ally over the next few years.
2007
The beginning of 2007 brought in notable members that would climb through the ranks, Rozza82 was recruited by then Underboss Djdan1995 and quickly rose to Consigliere within a few months, Jamo111 who became Capo who in turn recruited Mightus Mark that would eventually climb to Underboss. Alliances where also formed between Mafia City, Verona, an early incarnation of Corleone, the Mafia of Runescape and several others, this would form the backbone of what would later be coined the Runescape Mafia Network.
Conflicts on the streets continued with KOV over the months with flame wars breaking out in game and on the forums and raids on our operations continued. These clashes led to defectors on both sides joining the other side, some genuine while others being sent across as spies. New recruits were vetted and any suspected spies where interrogated and caught in sting operations.
War broke out by May 2007 and took place in the Rouges Castle, this was the first physical battle to take place between Mafia City and Kingdom of Varrock. On the day KOV managed to reach the castle first and set up their position, MC was delayed by an hour due to poor turnout, but had several key pkers with them that day. Enroute under the guise of running into pkers ourselves, we switched worlds, moved to the top of rouges castle, then switched back, allowing us to attack them from within. The battle was a bloodbath resulting in every participant dying on both sides in the confusion, it was declared a stalemate but allowed us to continue operating in southern Varrock, but it would be another year until the territory was officially claimed.
June and July 2007 saw new families created and more alliances made, notably with Harsh Chance of 99th Mafia, Lancaster157 of The Lancastrian Family and Mean 2 U Man of The Lavan Family. This in turn led to the formation of a council of bosses which would hold regular meetings to discuss current affairs, rivals and upcoming wars all while trying assert their own influence between each other. Near the end of July a meeting was called to elect a Boss of Bosses within the council who would assume control over the council and was to be held at the 99th Mafia Compound; each Don rallied support for themselves between each family, but as the meeting drew near it was looking likely that either Mattywarrior of Mafia City or Roan De Wise of Verona would be elected. On the evening of 21st July 2007 the council gathered, took their seats and prepared to vote, but the meeting was suddenly raided by the RSPD to break up the council, where it came to light that Jxac, right hand man to Harsh Chance had betrayed everyone and was attempting to take down all of the families. This event prevented the Boss of Bosses election and was never attempted again.
Mid Summer saw yet more families created and alliances formed despite the events of the previous council meeting. These where with The Frater Family, The Donivan Family, Irish Mafia and The Escalada Crime Family.
August 2007 saw the game release of the friend chat system, the first group messaging system in the game, this drastically improved communication and organising in game resulting in larger event attendances and faster responses to KOV activity near our borders.
October saw Rozza82 step down as Consigliere having assumed this role for most of the year and take up position of Underboss shortly after. Jamo111 replaces him as Consigliere and de facto second in command.
30th November 2007 Jamo111 suddenly departs Mafia City to form his own family, The Ando Family, he is replaced by Pb173.
2008
The end of 2007 and early 2008 saw more notable members joining, Chasman21, Mrpistols and Kurry Man2; all of which would eventually become Capos. March 2008 saw two dons of other families step down and join Mafia City, the first being the return of Jamo111 from leading The Ando Family, the second being Booperdee2 from leading 99th Family.
During the early months of 2008 conflict had once again broke out on W83 over territorial claims, at this time the original Kingdom of Varrock King, Worm Man 1 had stepped down and was replaced by Toc17 who disregarded our claim to parts of Varrock, causing bitter clashes on the streets as it had done a year prior. At some point during this time one of their allies also got involved, Empire of Falador, led by Cheese8088 who decided to make an untimely move on our claim to Port Sarim, pressuring to surrender the claim or face war. Faced on two fronts, Mafia City reluctantly handed over Port Sarim to EOF but vowed to reclaim it in the future.
Following these events, it was time to tackle these conflicts head on, Mafia City allies where called upon, notably Verona Family and Ando Family and together set out a war plan in secret over the course of a month to first silence KOV and settle the current border disputes. Surprisingly, in the week prior to the planned declaration date, Toc17 stepped down and was replaced by Zygon Leader, who was on friendlier terms with Mattywarrior at the time, but the planned war was to go ahead anyway.
War was declared and the date set as 12th April 2008 with a full out allied war between Mafia City and allies (The Network) vs Kingdom of Varrock and their POC allies. Almost 100 players showed up on both sides and was the largest war at the time to have taken place in the POC world. The brutal battle took place and saw Mafia City and its allies claim victory, with 52 fighters remaining and would leave a lasting legacy that they where no push over and a force to be reckoned with. The aftermath of the battle led to a time of stability on W83 with KOV and its other POC allies officially recognising Mafia City’s territorial claim to Southern Varrock. Mattywarrior and Zygon leader drew the official border between the two in line with the noticeboard near the southern edge of the Varrock general store. The rivalry would continue over the next few years but clashes in the streets would be done in good faith compared to the bitter spats that had occurred prior to the war.
On the run up to July, several more notable members joined during this time that would eventually become Capos; Bard237, Hotstew2 and Skinny Mage3, with the later 2 of the three being key combatants leading their own strike groups within future wars. May 2008 also saw the closure of Ando Family and recruitment of Mean 2 U Man and several of its members into Mafia City. He would eventually become Consigliere in April 2009.
June saw the opening of the Mafia City Brewery by Mike which was one of two minigame based racket operations within the family, originally used for supplying events and reselling stat boosting ales it eventually was combined with running Trouble Brewing games to gather “the stuff” to mass produce mature ales. Although it had ran since mid 2008, profits skyrocketed from October 2009 with the release of overloads and mass production of mature greenman ales. The second business that opened at a later date was Mafia City Metal, which focused on operating blast furnace runs to produce cheap metal bars and production of large batches of Mithril and Rune armour sold to warring clans carrying out wilderness wars.
Later in 2008 after many months of peace since the KOV war, another war was planned, spurred on by the Verona Family to uphold the power of the Mafia scene once again. This time the Empire of Falador was the target in an attempt to recover Port Sarim that was ceded earlier in the year, however at this time EOF was under new leadership where the reigning Queen Cass was on good terms with Mattywarrior and a potential looming alliance, but reluctantly went ahead with the plan, thus in a parallel of the KOV war, preparations where done in secret and a surprise declaration of war thrown upon them. EOF surrendered and signed away Port Sarim back to Mafia City without the need for a battle, stating it was unnecessary and could have simply requested it back through diplomacy. The victory came at the cost of any future alliance with EOF.
2009
January 2009 saw the biggest territorial expansion across W83, the world had slowly been claimed piece by piece since late 2006 by countless POC clans that had come and gone over that period, leaving a patchwork mess of unconnected claims. Having noticed the large holes in the map, Mattywarrior contacted then KOV King Ryanc360 to confirm there where large sections of unclaimed land across W83 and between them, carved up the majority of remaining surface world pushing. Most notably Mafia City expanded south from Varrock into Al Kharid and the entirety of the Kharidian desert, creating the largest unobstructed chunk of territory on W83. Karamja was split in half with KOV taking the North and Mafia City the South. Port Phasmatys expanded west to the border of Canifis.
New alliances where made at the start of the year with The Gambino Family led by Knight2672, The Capone Family led by Chiefpacman and Mafia of Zanaris led by Luigi2112.
