Divine Mafia was a RuneScape mafia roleplay clan founded in 2004 by Isildur558. It became one of the most recognized and long-standing groups within the RuneScape mafia community, known for its organized leadership, high activity, and involvement in large-scale clan wars and alliances.

Originally based in Free-to-Play World 74, Divine Mafia grew into a major force within the RuneScape Mafia Network. Over the years, it built a reputation for structured organization, competitive war presence, and lasting influence on RuneScape clan history.

History of Divine Mafia

Origins of Divine Mafia (2004–2007)

Divine Mafia’s roots trace back to mid-2004, when Isildur558 departed from The Third Age and founded the Radiata Army. Radiata Army established early dominance in World 74 before internal betrayal by the “Warlords” led to its collapse. In response, Isildur558 reorganized under the name Sonz of Liberty.

With co-leaders Tekknus and later Darkkat25, Sonz of Liberty became one of the earliest structured mafia roleplaying clans, blending protection rackets, coordinated operations, and political influence within World 74. By the mid-2000s, the clan transitioned once more to Radiata Army and expanded into Pay-to-Play, establishing operations in World 76.

Rebranding and Entry into the Mafia Network (2008–2009)

In 2008, reflecting its increasingly organized and historically inspired structure, the clan adopted its final name: Divine Mafia . The name derived from Isildur558’s reputation as "The Divine One."

Internal disagreements later led to the removal of Darkkat25 and the appointment of Gw Josep1 as co-don, marking the first major leadership shift in the clan’s history.

Through connections with Luigi2112 of Genovese in 2009, Divine Mafia entered the Mafia Network. With over 150 active members and a developed rank system, the clan quickly gained respect among established dons.

During its peak expansion era, Divine Mafia established three sub-clans:

This period also saw the creation of the "Fronts" system, business-style economic operations managed by Captains to coordinate trades, logistics, and internal revenue. Though innovative, the system eventually collapsed due to management breakdown.

McKnight Mafia War (2009)

After discovering McKnight Mafia’s support of Vertos Mafia, Divine Mafia declared war. The conflict escalated into an alliance confrontation, culminating in three victories for Divine Mafia - marking the first and only defeat of McKnight Mafia in its history.

New Leadership and Power Struggles (2009-2011)

Isildur558 vs Gw Josep1 Leadership Conflict (2009)

Following Isildur558's departure from Divine Mafia citing real life commitments, leadership was passed to 4saken Evil, the head of Dark Magic, a Divine Mafia sub-clan. However, many within Divine Mafia viewed 4saken Evil as an outsider, as he had spent the majority of his time developing Dark Magic rather than engaging with the parent clan. 4saken Evil himself felt a stronger loyalty to Dark Magic and found himself conflicted in the role.

Around October 2009, Gw Josep1 negotiated a compromise with 4saken Evil where Gw Josep1 would assume leadership of Divine Mafia while 4saken Evil would depart with Dark Magic as a fully independent clan. Though the arrangement eased immediate tensions, it was not universally accepted. Several of Divine Mafia's remaining sub-clans rejected the new leadership and defected, becoming independent organizations.

The situation worsened when Isildur558 returned and demanded Divine Mafia be handed back to him. Gw Josep1's refusal triggered a significant falling out. Isildur558 launched a scorched earth campaign against Divine Mafia, leveraging the alliances and relationships he had built during his tenure to turn former partners against the clan. The Grand Alliance suspended Divine Mafia's membership as a direct result of his efforts.

Gw Josep1 responded by pivoting outward, strengthening independent alliances and aligning Divine Mafia with The Liberty Alliance, formerly associated with McKnight Mafia. Despite the severity of the conflict, both leaders eventually reconciled and went their separate ways. With Isildur558's assistance following the reconciliation, Divine Mafia was able to restore its alliances and reclaim its standing within the Mafia Network.

This period marked one of the most politically volatile eras in the clan's history, and stood as a testament to Divine Mafia's resilience in the face of both internal fracture and external pressure.

The 99th Mafia War (2010)

Following escalating disputes between Gw Josep1 and Booperdee2 of 99th Mafia, war was declared. Divine Mafia initially lost in an allied conflict but reclaimed its turf in a 1-vs-1 rematch, defeating 99th Mafia three consecutive times.

Leadership Crisis and Fragmentation (2011)

On February 1, 2011, Gw Josep1 officially resigned and appointed Chanman170 and RockisDead as dual leaders. The arrangement quickly deteriorated due to internal rivalry, culminating in RockisDead leaving Divine Mafia to establish New Age Mafia. Several members followed, resulting in significant losses to the family’s strength.

By July 2011, Divine Mafia was once again reclaimed by Gw Josep1 in an effort to stabilize the clan. Attempts to negotiate peace and a merger between Divine Mafia and New Age Mafia failed, escalating into large-scale hit-and-run raids between both clan chats.

With Divine Mafia weakened, founder Isildur558 returned alongside Gw Josep1 to merge Divine Mafia with Scarfo Family under the Divine Mafia name. The merger briefly restored stability, but Isildur558 resigned only weeks later. Efforts to maintain the unified Divine–Scarfo structure faltered, and the clan entered a period of inactivity.

Reformation and Passing of Leadership (2012–2015)

Reformation of Divine Mafia (2012)

Following the collapse of the first Divine-Scarfo merger, Divine Mafia entered a transitional period. While significantly changed from its earlier years, the clan remained active. A new generation of members including Y A N K M E and Jermworm89 began filling the void left by earlier departures, gradually becoming the backbone of the organization.

On April 13, 2012, Gw Josep1 returned to formally lead restoration efforts alongside Y A N K M E. With New Age Mafia having disbanded the previous year, many of its former members including RockisDead reintegrated into Divine Mafia, accelerating the clan's recovery.

However, RuneScape's announcement of major combat system updates disrupted momentum across the Mafia Network, prompting Y A N K M E to resign on July 10, 2012.

Despite the setback, Divine Mafia moved to strengthen its position by absorbing Scarfo Mafia in August 2, 2012, which had been rebuilt following the collapse of the first merger and had since passed through several leadership successions before landing under R O C. Unlike the first merger, the acquisition met with significantly less resistance, with much of the original Scarfo membership that had held strong loyalty to Isildur558 having long since departed. Upon hearing of the acquisition, Isildur558 reclaimed the Scarfo name from R O C, though this had no meaningful impact on the merger itself.

Passing of Leadership (2012–2015)

Y A N K M E eventually returned to Divine Mafia, and on November 30, 2012, Gw Josep1 resigned citing reduced availability and named Y A N K M E as his successor.

Under Y A N K M E, Divine Mafia experienced renewed stability and sustained activity at a time when many other mafia clans were dissolving. In July 2013, Y A N K M E resigned due to real life commitments, passing leadership to Miracle Man0, followed by Jermworm89.

In December 2013, Gw Josep1 and Y A N K M E rejoined Divine Mafia alongside Miracle Man0, Jermworm89, and Arcdemon44 in a coordinated effort to further revive the clan.

By late 2015, leadership returned to Gw Josep1, passed down from Jermworm89. The handoff was largely symbolic, as Divine Mafia had entered an extended hiatus. With Gw Josep1 having been the face of the clan since 2010, the transition was seen as a natural resting place for the family's legacy.

Despite fluctuations in activity and multiple leadership transitions, Divine Mafia's continued existence cemented its reputation as one of the Mafia Network's most enduring families.

Final Era and Dissolution of Divine Mafia (2020–2021)

Final Revival of Divine Mafia (2020–2021)

In November 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic, Divine Mafia experienced one final revival. Several long-time veterans returned to RuneScape and reunited under the Divine Mafia name in what became the clan’s last organized resurgence.

While the reunion successfully brought together many former members, the broader clan dynamic within RuneScape had significantly declined by this time. The Mafia Network community that had once sustained large-scale alliances, wars, and political rivalries was no longer active at the levels seen in previous eras. Recruitment proved difficult, and sustained activity could not be maintained.

By 2021, Divine Mafia was formally dissolved for the final time.
